Silicates in seawater and aquarium water can
cause problems to the balance of the aquarium system. In particular, the high
level of silicates in sea water may cause a diatom bloom, which is also called
brown algae. There are several ways of removing silicates from the water and
several ways to prevent them from entering the aquarium system, and it will be
not enough to clean the aquarium with the aquarium
magnetic glass cleaner regularly.
1. Use
only reverse osmosis and deionized water or distilled water. Reverse osmosis
forces through a very fine mesh to remove almost all the pollutants, however,
the silicates can pass through the BOYU
aquarium filter but will be removed by deionizer’s
resin. You can buy reverse osmosis / filter deionizers on the Internet and in
some specialty stores aquarium.
2. Only
use Aragonite sand in the aquarium. Play sand from the hardware store, usually
made of silicates and silicate sand will get into the water.
3. Let the
diatoms grow. Diatoms are from silicates in the water, and you can allow them
to flourish and delete them using a siphon them with stones and glass. This
will remove the silicates from the water. If you have a sump (filtration
system) set up with your aquarium, you can let the diatoms flourish in the sump
and the main tank.
